The Quinault area is a hiker’s paradise, with trails for all abilities snaking through a diversity of terrain. The 10-mile Quinault National Recreation Trail System, accessible from Willaby and Falls Creek Campgrounds and Lake Quinault Lodge [1], provides several loop trail hiking opportunities along the lakeshore and into the rain forest.
Easier still is the half-mile Quinault Rain Forest Nature Trail, where informative signs explain the natural features. A good hike for those traveling with small children begins at North Fork Campground, following the Three Lakes Trail for the first mile to Irely Lake. The half-mile Maple Glade Rain Forest Trail begins at the Park Service’s Quinault Visitor Center on North Fork Road.
Another easy jaunt is the Graves Creek Nature Trail, a one-mile loop that begins at the Graves Creek Campground on the South Shore Road. From the same starting point, the Enchanted Valley Trail takes you through a wonderful rainforest along the South Fork of the Quinault River. Day hikers often go as far as Pony Bridge, 2.5 miles each way, but more ambitious folks can continue to Dosewallips, a one-way distance of 28 miles.
