The best part of Port Angeles [1]—outside of its proximity to Olympic National Park [2]—is clearly the city pier. An observation tower at pier’s end provides 360-degree views of the city, harbor, and majestic Olympic mountains, while a sandy beach with picnic area is available for day use.
Also located on the pier near the Coho ferry dock, the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Laboratory (360/417-6254, www.olypen.com/feirolab [3], noon–4 p.m. Sat.–Sun. year-round, 10 a.m.–8 p.m. daily in summer, $3 adults, $2 seniors, $1 for kids ages 3–17, and free for under age 2), operated by Peninsula College, has hands-on displays and exhibits of the area’s sealife, with volunteers to answer questions.
More than 80 species are here, including sea slugs, eels, octopuses, starfish, and sea urchins.
