The most popular viewpoint along Hood Canal [1] is 2,804-foot Mt. Walker, five miles south of Quilcene [2]. A narrow gravel road leads to the summit, or you can hike up via a two-mile path through tall Douglas fir forests and a lush understory of huckleberry and rhododendron.
The trail (or road) emerges onto a ridge with panoramic views of Seattle [3], Mt. Rainier [4], and the Cascades to the east, and the Olympics to the northwest. Bring a lunch to enjoy at the summit picnic area.
