In Brinnon, Whitney Gardens & Nursery (306264 Hwy. 101, 360/796-4411, www.whitneygardens.com [1], 9 a.m.–dusk daily, $1 admission, $2 for a guided tour) has seven acres of display gardens that include more than 3,000 rhododendrons, azaleas, and other flowering plants. It is especially stunning from mid-May to mid-June, but you’ll find something in bloom all summer.
Learn how oysters, mussels, and clams are raised at Brinnon’s Point Whitney Shellfish Lab (1000 Point Whitney Rd., 360/796-4601), run by the Washington Department of Fisheries.
In Eldon, the Seafood Store (38546 N. U.S. Hwy. 101, 360/877-5811 or 888/877-5844, www.hamahamaoysters.com [2]) sells fresh shucked, smoked, shell, and even pickled oysters! Tours of the facility are welcomed.
