A half mile south of Brinnon [1] on Highway 101, Dosewallips State Park covers 425 acres at the base of the Olympic Mountains, offering both fresh- and saltwater activities where the Hood Canal [2] comes together with the Dosewallips River. Enjoy camping ($17 for tents, $23 for RV hookups) and fishing for salmon and steelhead in the river.
Clams are sometimes available here in season—check with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (360/902-2700, www.wdwa.wa.gov [3]). Six miles of hiking trails provide access to the forested west end of Dosewallips.
Two miles south of Brinnon, Pleasant Harbor State Park has a protected dock adjacent to a private marina, but no camping, boat launch, or swimming facilities.
