Friday Harbor is home to several excellent art galleries, including Waterworks Gallery (315 Argyle, 360/378-3060, www.waterworksgallery.com [2], 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 11 a.m.–4 p.m. Sun.), a large, contemporary gallery with impressive paintings, prints, watercolors, and sculpture by island and international artists.
Sunshine Gallery (85 Nichols St., 360/378-5819, 10:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Wed.–Mon., closed Tues.) is a cooperatively run place selling quality local artwork.
The Garuda & I (60 1st St., 360/378-3733, www.sanjuansites.com/garudaandi [3], 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 11 a.m.–3 p.m. Sun.) is a unique gallery with ethnic artifacts, beautiful jewelry, and a large cage filled with chirping zebra finches.
Also of note is Rainshadow Arts Gallery (20 1st St. N, 360/378-0988, www.rainshadow-arts.com [4]) with photography, prints, and other works of art.
Island Studios (270 Spring St., 360/378-6550, www.islandstudios.com [5]) features work from more than 90 local artists, including paintings, stained glass, jewelry, pottery, and more.
