One might not expect it in the ho-hum hamlet of Anacortes [1], but there are actually two hip restaurants in town that could easily compete with most of the fashionable restaurants in Seattle [2].
Better of the two is
Adrift (510 Commercial Ave., 360/588-0653, www.adriftrestaurant.com [3], 8 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., closed Sun.). Driftwood furniture and local art accent the interior here, fostering an inviting dining place with a cozy nautical theme that celebrates Anacortes’ roots. The menu relies on fresh greens, seafood, poultry, and steaks, cooked up with a bit of international flair. On the seasonal dinner menu you're as likely to find Cuban pork sandwiches or Vietnamese chicken burgers as cioppino or steak. Adrift also serves hearty breakfasts and fresh lunches.
The trendy digs at Star Bar Café (416 Commercial Ave., 360/299-2120, www.Starbaranacortes.com [4], 5–9:30 p.m. Tues.–Sat., lounge opens at 3 p.m.) serve as the mood enhancer for the seasonal salads, fresh seafood, and world fusion cuisine.
