There are more hotel options in Bremerton [1], but Port Orchard [2] does offer some decent hotel rooms at the Comfort Inn (1121 Bay St., 360/895-2666 or 800/465-4329, $99–119 d) that have microwaves and mini-fridges included. The more expensive ones even come with Jacuzzi tubs. The property has an outdoor spa and an extensive continental breakfast that includes make-your-own waffles.

There are a number of cozy bed-and-breakfasts scattered about town, including the stunning Ladley’s View Park Bed and Breakfast Resort (7382 View Park Rd., 866/871-0900, $200–250 d, no kids allowed), tucked away on a 20-acre gated property that includes a nine-hole golf course, lighted tennis courts, a trout pond, gardens, and woodland trails—all included with the room rate. Also on the property are saunas, spas, and a fitness center. The rooms are huge, and unlike many B&Bs, this one serves breakfast at your leisure rather than at a fixed time at the crack of dawn.

Another lovely option for the budget-minded traveler is Reflections B&B (3878 Reflection Lane E, 360/871-5582, $65–110 d), a large two-story home with four guest rooms, a hot tub, and gazebo. Rooms offer views of Port Orchard Passage, and a full breakfast is served. Couples will enjoy the silence—no kids are allowed at this place.

Families touring with older kids can check into Little Clam Bay Bed and Breakfast (7801 E Jessica Way, 360/871-0619, www.littleclambay.com [3], $160 d), a private little cottage only about a mile away from Manchester State Park [4]. The second bedroom with twin beds is rented out for only $35 more per person and kids over 12 are welcome. The master bedroom has a large tub meant for two and there’s a fireplace in the living room, plus a deck looking out over Little Clam Bay. On top of breakfast, the innkeepers serve late evening snacks each day.
