Tenino City Park

From downtown Olympia [1], follow Capitol Boulevard S onto Old Highway 99 to Tenino, a quiet old town with stone-fronted buildings lining the main street. These stones came from Tenino’s sandstone quarry, now a popular swimming hole at Tenino City Park.

The name Tenino (ten-NINE-oh) has a handful of possible origins, from the Native American name for a fork or junction, to the more colorful Engine Number 1090 (ten-nine-oh) that ran on the Kalama–Tacoma railroad line in the 1870s.
