Bellingham’s [1] Maritime Heritage Center (1600 C St., 360/676-6806, 9 a.m. to dusk daily, free) is an urban park where you can fish for salmon and steelhead on Whatcom Creek, watch salmon spawning in mid-October, and learn about hatchery operation. Kids will enjoy the marinelife touch tank where they can pet intertidal creatures. It’s located inside the Harbor Center Mall at Squalicum Harbor off Roeder Avenue.
