Driving or biking around Clinton’s [1] rural, wooded back roads provides fresh air and great views. Take Deer Lake Road (watch the signs—the road takes 90-degree turns without notice) to Deer Lake Park for swimming, boating, and fishing in a secluded, wooded area. From Highway 525, go left on Maxwelton Road, and stay on it all the way to Maxwelton Beach in Dave Mackie County Park, where you’ll find the island’s best Dungeness crabbing, along with shallow water for swimming.
Possession Beach County Park covers just two acres at the southern tip of Whidbey Island [2]; it is a popular fishing site and a fine place to enjoy the views.
