Several notable walking tours are described under in the Sights [1] section: the Park Service’s free gold rush historical walks [2] around Pioneer Square; the three-hour walking tours of Pike Place Market [3]; the walking/eating tours of International District [4] offered by Chinatown Discovery Tours; and Bill Speidel’s Underground Tours [5]. All are interesting and educational, but the last of these is particularly popular; guides cover the Pioneer Square area, providing humorous anecdotes (often at the expense of Tacoma), along with dollops of local history.
Some of the finest local walking tours are offered by the Museum of History and Industry [6] (206/324-1126 for upcoming treks, or visit www.seattlehistory.org [7]) on summer Sundays. These two-hour tours offer a great way to learn local history.
Several private companies lead guided walking tours of Seattle [8] on a daily basis, including Seattle Walking Tours (206/885-3173, www.seattlewalkingtours.com [9], $15) and See Seattle Walking Tours (425/226-7641, www.see-seattle.com [10], $20).
