An extremely popular three-mile paved bicycle, jogging, and skating loop—watch out for errant skateboards—hugs Green Lake (7201 E. Green Lake Dr. N), where you can also sail and swim or rent a paddleboat, canoe, kayak, sailboard, or rowboat. A kids-only fishing pier is at the east end of the lake.
Crocodile hunting was popular at Green Lake in 1986, when assorted reports of a lake creature took on the proportions of a Loch Ness Monster. The "monster" turned out to be a three-pound, 28-inch caiman, which was shipped to a private breeder in Kansas City; Green Lake is now believed crocodile-free.
