The Malecón [1] is a good place to jog, but beware the uneven surface and massive potholes. One alternative is the central median of 5ta Avenida, in Miramar [2]. For wide-open spaces, head to Parque Lenin; the road circuit provides a perfect running track.
Runners in search of a track might head to the Estadio José Martí (Calle I, e/ 5ta y Malecón, Vedado); Estadio Juan Abrahantes (Zapata), south of the university; or Ciudad Deportiva (Vía Blanca, esq. Av. Rancho Boyeros, Nuevo Vedado, tel. 07/854-5022).
Annual road races include the 5K International Terry Fox Race (February), the 98K Ultra Marabana (April), the 5K Día de la Madre (Mother’s Day Race; May), the 10K Clásico Internacional Hemingway (May), and the Habana Marabana (Havana Marathon; November; CUC40 entry fee). Contact the Comisión Marabana at the Ciudad Deportiva (Vía Blanca, esq. Av. Rancho Boyeros) for information.
