If ever you doubted that Cuba has a rock scene, head to Maxim Rock (Bruzón, e/ Almendares y Ayasterán, tel. 07/877-5925) for live concerts Wednesday–Saturday 8 p.m.–midnight.
Roqueros also gravitate to Patio de María (Calle 37 #262, e/ Paseo y 2, Vedado, tel. 07/881-0722, daily 7:30 a.m.–11 p.m., five pesos), one block west of Teatro Nacional, where rock concerts and varied peñas are hosted.
Meanwhile, the theater hosts the Peña de Los Kents in the Café Cantante (Sun. 4 p.m.), when the eponymous and aging rock band plays oldster classics.
Rap, reggaeton, and other innovative avante-garde music concerts are hosted at La Madriguera (Av. Salvador Allende, e/ Infanta y Luaces, tel. 07/879-8175, 5–10 pesos, Mon.–Wed. and Fri.–Sat. 9 a.m.–7 p.m. and Thurs. 9 a.m.–midnight). A disco is hosted Thursday nights. La Madriguera, home to the Asociación Hermanos Saíz (youth group of UNEAC), is entered off Infanta in an unlikely spot in the overgrown botanical gardens.
