Buckhorn Inn (2140 Tudor Mountain Rd., 865/436-4668, www.buckhorninn.com [4], $110–320) is a peaceful and elegant retreat. Situated in the Great Smoky Mountains Arts and Crafts Community [5], on 25 acres of land, the Buckhorn Inn has four types of accommodations.
Standard rooms ($115–130) have king-sized beds, private phones, baths, and sitting areas. Premier rooms ($175) add a fireplace, private balcony, whirlpool tub, coffeemaker, and refrigerator. Private cottages ($175) offer the same amenities as a premier room but in a small private cottage. Private guesthouses ($195–320) are two-bedroom guesthouses with full kitchens, fireplaces, living rooms, and ample outdoor spaces.
All Buckhorn rooms are furnished in an elegant, yet homey, style. Comforts abound. Overnight guests enjoy breakfast in the sunny dining room, with views of Mount LeConte [6] in the park. A four-course dinner is served nightly at an additional charge of $30 per person. The food at Buckhorn Inn is superb. You can pass the time walking the nature trail, or strolling in Rachael’s Labyrinth. Relax in the library or watch the view from the flagstone terrace. Children under 12 are not permitted at Buckhorn, and on weekends and holidays there is a two-night minimum stay. The innkeepers offers special packages for honeymooners, hikers, fly fishers, and others.
Located on River Road, The Edgewater Inn (402 River Rd., 865/436-4151, www.edgewater-hotel.com [7], $140–150) is a full-service hotel and conference center ideal for families or business travelers. Guests enjoy free continental breakfast, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, in-room fireplaces, plus free parking and wireless Internet.
Situated in a 1930s home, Laurel Springs Lodge (204 Hill St., 865/430-9211, www.laurelspringslodge.com [8], $95–159) is a bed-and-breakfast with five guest rooms. Each room has a private bath, television, and fine linens. Mini-suites have a DVD/VCR and bathrobes. Breakfast is served each morning at 8:30 a.m., and features fresh, hearty home-style fare, although light options are also available. The inn is located within walking distance of Gatlinburg [3] attractions and restaurants.
