The historic residential neighborhood of Fourth and Gill, near the Old City and slightly north of downtown, is home to the Knoxville Hostel (404 Fourth Ave., 865/546-8090, $17). Located in a homey urban cottage with hardwood floors, a generous porch, and small backyard, the Knoxville Hostel offers its guests bunk-bed dorm-style accommodation in sex-segregated bedrooms. Guests can lounge by the TV, use the kitchen, or surf the Internet for free on the hostel computer. Linens are provided, as is a free continental breakfast. All-in-all it’s a good deal, even for the budget-conscious. The hostel is within walking distance of the Old City, Gay Street [1], and the trolley line.
