A timeworn Days Inn on the University of Tennessee [1] campus got a major face-lift, opening in 2009 as Hotel Indigo Knoxville (1719 Lake Ave., 865/521-5000, $100–125). Part of a new chain of “upscale value” hotels, Indigo offers an experience apart from the typical hotel room. Guest rooms boast hardwood floors, murals, and spa-like bath fixtures. There is a casual café and coffeehouse on the ground floor, free wireless Internet throughout, and a youthful atmosphere all around. Hotel Indigo’s location cannot be beat if you are coming to the university. It would be a hike—or a short trolley ride—to downtown attractions.
Located near the World’s Fair Park [2] on the edge of Fort Sanders [3], the Cumberland House Hotel (1109 White Ave., 865/971-4663, $100–150) is a Sheraton. The 130 guest rooms have flat-screen televisions, coffeemakers, hair dryers, and CD players. Suites with kitchenettes and couches are available. The hotel, built in 2005, boasts an on-site restaurant as well as a fitness center. Cumberland House is convenient to UT and to Neyland Stadium.
