The Family Wash (2038 Greenwood Ave., 615/226-6070, Tues.–Sat. 6 p.m.–midnight, $9–15) is a live music listening room that serves good food at surprisingly low cost. Where else can you get a well-cooked steak for just $14? Choose from baked mac and cheese, the killer meat or vegetarian shepherd’s pie, or roasted salmon and jasmine rice. Pizzas and the flank steak sandwich are always good. Reservations are accepted, and a good idea, especially when a popular musician is on the stage. The Wash, located in an old laundry, books up-and-coming singer-songwriters, and when the music is on, the conversation stops. This is a restaurant with a lot of energy and a little attitude.
