Concert Series

Dyer Observatory (1000 Oman Dr., 615/373-4897, www.dyer.vanderbilt.edu [1]), a working space observatory operated by Vanderbilt University [2], has emerged as a popular venue for music, thanks to two ongoing concert series. Music on the Mountain, with Blair School of Music, and Bluebird on the Mountain, with the the Bluebird Cafe [3], bring live music to this dramatic and one-of-a-kind spot. Imagine a night of fine music enjoyed under the stars, with the fresh air and the atmosphere of the forest all around you.

Every October the Grand Ole Opry [4] celebrates its birthday with Opry Month, four weeks of star-studded performances, including several at the Opry’s original home, the Ryman Auditorium [5]. Get your tickets early, since these shows are always popular.

Also taking place on Thursday nights in the summer, Bluegrass Nights at the Ryman is a concert series that features some of the best pickers in the country. Starting in June and ending in July, this Ryman Auditorium [5] series is always popular.

For a laid-back evening in a one-of-a-kind setting, check out the Tennessee Jazz and Blues Society’s concert series Jazz on the Lawn (www.jazzblues.org [6]). On Sunday evenings from May to October, jazz and blues artists take the stage on the lawns of some of Nashville’s [7] most historic homes, including Belle Meade [8] and Cheekwood [9]. Bring your own picnic and blanket.
