Nashville’s [1] foremost visual art space is the Frist Center for the Visual Arts (919 Broadway, 615/744-3247, www.fristcenter.org [2], Mon.–Sat. 10 a.m.–5:30 p.m., Thurs. and Fri. until 9 p.m., Sun. 1–5 p.m., adults $8.50, seniors and military $7.50, students $6.50). The Frist is located in a stately building that once housed the 1930s downtown post office. High ceilings, art deco finishes, and unique hardwood tiles distinguish the museum.
With no permanent collection of its own, the Frist puts on about 12 different major visiting exhibitions annually. At any given time, you will see between three and four different exhibits. ArtQuest, a permanent part of the Frist, is an excellent hands-on arts activity room for children and their parents.
