There are thousands of cookie-cutter hotel rooms in Memphis [1], but travelers would be wise to look past major chains. If you can afford it, choose to stay in downtown Memphis. With the city at your doorstep, you’ll have a better experience both day and night. Downtown is also where you’ll find the most distinctive accommodations, including fine luxury hotels, charming inns, and an antebellum guest home.
Budget travelers have their pick of major chain hotels; the farther from the city center, the cheaper the room. Beware very good deals, however, since you may find yourself in sketchy neighborhoods. There is a campground with tent and RV sites within a 15-minute drive of downtown at T. O. Fuller State Park [2].
