Any of the half-dozen gift shops along Beale Street [1] sell gifts and souvenirs of the city. Memphis Music (149 Beale St., 901/526-5047) has a good selection of CDs and DVDs for music fans. For a unique gift or something practical for yourself, A. Schwab [2] (163 Beale St., 901/523-9782) is your best choice, and lots of fun to boot.
Another good place for gift shopping is the Center for Southern Folklore [3] (119 S. Main St., 901/525-3655), which has books, art, and music focusing on the region. All of the city’s museums have good gift shops, including the National Civil Rights Museum [4], Stax Museum of American Soul Music [5], and Sun Studio [6], where everything is emblazoned with the distinctive yellow Sun label.
If you have a car, head out to Shangri-La Records (1916 Madison Ave., 901/274-1916), the city’s best record store, which specializes in Memphis [7] music.
