The most centrally located airport for the Charleston and Savannah region is Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (400 Airways Ave., 912/964-0514, airport code SAV, www.savannahairport.com [1]) directly off I-95 at exit 104, about 20 minutes from downtown Savannah [2], a half-hour from Hilton Head Island, and less than two hours from Charleston [3]. Airlines with routes into and out of SAV include AirTran (www.airtran.com [4]), American Eagle (www.aa.com [5]), Continental (www.continental.com [6]), Delta (www.delta.com [7]), United Express (www.ual.com [8]), and US Airways (www.airways.com [9]).

A bit less convenient to the rest of the region because of its location well north of town is Charleston International Airport (5500 International Blvd., 843/767-1100, airport code CHS, www.chs-airport.com [10]), served by AirTran (www.airtran.com [4]), American Airlines (www.aa.com [5]), Continental Airlines (www.continental.com [6]), Delta (www.delta.com [7]), United Airlines (www.ual.com [8]), and US Airways (www.usairways.com [11]).

Many travelers to the region are using Jacksonville International Airport (2400 Yankee Clipper Dr., 904/741-4902, airport code JAX, www.jaa.aero/General/Default.aspx [12]) about 20 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. While it’s a two-hour drive from Savannah, this airport’s proximity to the attractions south of Savannah makes it attractive for some visitors, who can often find a good deal and make it worth their while to make the drive.
