Eight miles north of Driggs [1], sleepy Tetonia is dominated by a big LDS church, with dirt side streets. Potato farms and grand old barns spread across the surrounding landscape; it’s a good place to see kids riding horseback. The crest of the tourist wave is just starting to lap at the shores of Tetonia, and at last check no local place sold espresso, focaccia, or cell phones.
Three miles south of Tetonia, Blue Fly Gallery (208/456-0900, www.kenmorrisonfineart.com [2]) exhibits the colorful paintings and sculptures of Ken Morrison.
Steve Horn Mountain Gallery (112 S. Main St., 208/456-2719, www.stevehorn.com [3]) crafts rugged Old West-style furniture and relief carvings.
Teton Mountain View Lodge & RV Park (208/456-2741, www.tetonmountainlodge.com [4]) has comfortable motel rooms ($79-89 d) with Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, and hot tub access. RV spaces are $29, and tent sites cost $10.
North End Bar & Grill (208/456-2202, daily 7 a.m.-10 p.m. in summer, 8 a.m.-9 p.m. in winter, $10-25) attracts local farmers (and travelers) with filling biscuits-and-gravy breakfasts (along with some lighter fare), lunchtime buffalo burgers, Cajun chicken sandwiches, and fish tacos, plus dinners that include blackened halibut, rib-eye steak, and weekend prime rib.
