As one of the premier centers for tourism in Wyoming, Jackson Hole [1] is jam-packed with more than 70 different motels, hotels, and B&Bs, plus many more condominiums and guest ranches. Other lodging can be found just to the north within or near Grand Teton National Park [2].
The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce’s website (www.jacksonholechamber.com [3]) has brief descriptions and Web links for most local places.
Because of the town’s popularity, Jackson [4] accommodations command premium prices. With a few exceptions, you’ll pay at least $110 d during the peak visitor seasons of July-August and late December-early January. Rates can drop more than 50 percent in the off-season, so if you can visit March-May or late September-mid-December, you’ll save a lot of cash. (The same Super 8 Motel rooms that go for $179 in July cost just $63 in early November!)
In the town of Jackson, the highest rates are usually in July and August, while at Teton Village, skiers and snowboarders send room rates to their peak between mid-December and early January. You will need to add 6 percent in taxes to all the lodging rates below, and some hotels also add a 2 percent “resort impact fee” for regional marketing.
Reservations are highly recommended. For midsummer, book rooms at least two months ahead, or longer if you really want to be certain of a place. During the Christmas-New Year’s period you should probably reserve six months in advance to ensure a spot. Summer weekends tend to be the most crowded, with many families driving up from Salt Lake City for a cooling break in the mountains.
If you’re overwhelmed by all the lodging choices, try one of the reservation services, such as Jackson Hole Central Reservations (307/733-4005 or 800/443-6931, www.jacksonholewy.com [5]).
