If you’re dizzy from the elevation, sit on the porch of the Beartooth Cafe (406/838-2475, 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily Memorial Day weekend–Sept., dinner $13–25) and gobble a burger or a sandwich ($7), stroke the town dogs, then order a beer from the impressive list of imports and microbrews.
Breakfast at The Bistro (406/838-2160, 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily summer, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily winter, dinner $12–23) is a good bet, and the French-influenced dinners are surprisingly good.
Stop at the Miner’s Saloon (406/838-2214, lunch and dinner, open year-round, $8–25) for either a beer or a full meal (try the fish tacos). The saloon is loaded with historical touches, and the food is as fresh as you’ll find in remote Cooke City [1], where it’s nearly impossible to grow a vegetable.
