Boats aren’t allowed on Yellowstone National Park’s rivers, but Yellowstone Raft Company (406/848-7777,www.yellowstoneraft.com, half-day $35 adult) and Flying Pig Raft Company (406/848-7510 or 866/807-0744, www.flyingpigrafting.com [3], half-day $39 adult), both headquartered in Gardiner, run trips on the Yellowstone River outside the park.
Local outfitters guide visitors on a wide variety of trail rides and fishing trips.
Hell’s A Roarin’ Outfitters (406/848-7578, www.hellsaroarinoutfitters.com [4]) is based in Jardine and offers a wide range of activities, including horseback rides and fishing trips; Parks’ Fly Shop (406/848-7314, www.parksflyshop.com [5]) is on Highway 89 in downtown Gardiner and can set you up with a guide. Richard Parks is author of a comprehensive fishing guide to Yellowstone National Park and is the local go-to guy on many conservation issues.
The Gallatin National Forest has a ranger station (406/848-7375) in Gardiner near the park entrance.
