Back when passenger trains still crossed southern Montana, Livingston [1] was the gateway to Yellowstone National Park. Parkgoers would change trains at the Livingston depot and take the rail spur to Yellowstone.
Nowadays, travelers with a little time to pass can stock up on some of the world’s most coveted flies in Livingston, cast them into the Yellowstone River [2], soak in the Chico Hot Springs [3], or wander out of the broad sun-filled Paradise Valley [4] into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area [5]. There’s really no sense in a pell-mell dash to often hectic Yellowstone when there are so many places to linger around just to the north.
