Travelers who prefer not to stay in standard motel accommodations have a choice in Bozeman [1].
The International Backpackers Hostel (405 W. Olive St., 406/586-4659, www.bozemanbackpackershostel.com [2], $20 bunk in co-ed dorm room, $42 private room) could pass for a big MSU [3] group house, with no curfew. It’s a big, old, somewhat shabby (but not creepy) Victorian just off Main Street.
The Bozeman Ranger District (406/522-2520, www.fs.fed.us/r1/gallatin [4], $30) rents out a number of rustic cabins in the Gallatin National Forest. They’re generally equipped with woodstoves but have no running water, and they may require a substantial hike from road’s end. For a list of cabins, call the ranger station or visit the website.
