Between Georgetown Lake [1] and Philipsburg, Highway 1 follows Flint Creek down precipitous Flint Creek Canyon to the Philipsburg Valley. The terrain eventually becomes more hospitable to ranching, and between Philipsburg and Drummond [2] the landscape becomes increasingly agrarian.
Whether it is the community’s isolation or the integrity of its Victorian-era architecture, Philipsburg has recently gained a reputation as a refuge for artists. Philipsburg has an exceedingly handsome Victorian-era town center, and each year sees another old building brought back to life with lots of paint, loving care, and entrepreneurial pride.
