Just across from the Prince of Wales Hotel [1], the Park Information Centre is open mid-May through mid-October (403/859-2445).

The park administration office (403/859-2224) is open year-round on Mountain View Road.

The in-town Heritage Centre (117 Waterton Ave., 403/859-2267) is run by the Waterton Natural History Association. The friendly staff will help plan hikes, meals, and motel stays. A small historical museum and a book shop operate out of the same Waterton Avenue building.

Free interpretive programs are presented each evening in the Falls Theatre across from Cameron Falls [2] and in the theater at Crandell Campground. Programs focus on both history and nature studies and usually include slides or a movie.

For ambulance services, call 403/859-2636. Reach the fire department at 403/859-2113. The police station is at the corner of Waterton Avenue and Cameron Falls Drive (403/859-2244).

Most businesses will accept U.S. dollars at the current exchange rate, but dispensing foreign currency in change is restricted. Find bank machines and money exchange at the Tamarack Village Square (403/859-2378).

Transportation

The Chief Mountain International Highway (Highway 17) connects Glacier [3] and Waterton National Parks [4], but both the highway and the customs stations along it close down mid-September to mid-May, forcing drivers to head north from Montana on Highway 89 to Cardston, then west on Highway 5 to Waterton.

Citizens of Canada and the United States will need a government-issued ID to cross the border, and proof of sufficient funds to finance your trip. It is a good idea to bring a passport if you have one.

Waterton Sports and Leisure (403/859-2378), an outdoor supply store in Tamarack Village Square, runs shuttles for hikers.

A tour boat runs from the Waterton Marina to Goat Haunt, Montana, at the southern end of Upper Waterton Lake [5].
