Midway between downtown and the hilltop Prince of Wales Hotel, the Lamp Post (403/859-2334, 7:30 a.m.–10 p.m. daily year-round), Kilmorey Lodge’s dining room, strikes a happy medium for a good dinner in comfortable, attractive surroundings. Lunches are about C$10, and dinners are C$17–39. For a drink, try the intimate bar inside the Kilmorey. After a few dinners in Glacier Park hotels, this may provide a welcome fresh touch.

Tucked behind the Kilmorey Lodge, the outdoor Gazebo Cafe (403/859-2342, July–Aug., dinner about C$20) is informal and reasonably priced for pasta or salads.

The dining room at the Prince of Wales [1] (403/859-2231, 6:30–10 a.m., 11 a.m.–3 p.m., and 5–9:30 p.m., dinner C$20–35) puts a British Isles twist on the standard Glacier Park hotel menu: They serve shepherd’s pie at lunch, and dinners include British Columbia [2] salmon.

There’s also a quite charming tearoom here, serving delicious scones and other pastries 2–4 p.m. Full high tea costs C$36.
