Of the many hikes in the Many Glacier [1] area, the one around Swiftcurrent Lake is the simplest, if the least spectacular. It’s a good evening stroll from the lodge or campground—two miles of flat lakeside terrain. The trail occasionally breaks out of the trees for views of the Garden Wall and nearby mountains. Pick up a nature guide at the official trailhead, the picnic area halfway between the lodge and the campground.
Another easy walk combines a boat trip to the far end of Josephine Lake with a two-mile round-trip hike to Grinnell Lake, a milky aquamarine lake full of icy water and glacial flour from Grinnell Glacier [2].
