Aside from the Going-to-the-Sun Road [1], this is the most popular and the most spectacular area of Glacier National Park [2]. The mountains are right there, with the knife-edge-thin Garden Wall as a backdrop to the southwest, and a glacier but a day hike away.
Many Glacier is spectacular enough to warrant a quick detour just for a snooze on the hotel veranda [3], but it also makes a good base for several days’ worth of hiking, canoeing, and bicycle or horseback riding.
