It’s a short walk from the well-marked bridge over Two Medicine Creek through some conifers and across a rocky creek side to Running Eagle Falls (Trick Falls).
When there’s plenty of water, it appears to be like any other waterfall. The trick comes when water volume decreases late in the summer and water spouts from a hole beneath the main shelf of the falls. Look at the rim of the falls for the fault line marking the eastern edge of the Lewis Overthrust.
Running Eagle, or Pitamakan, was a Blackfoot woman who reportedly led warriors over Cut Bank Pass on raids against Flathead and Kootenai tribes to the west.
For a full day’s hike, Upper Two Medicine Lake [1] is five miles from the Two Medicine Campground. The trail runs along the south shore of Lower Two Medicine Lake [1]. To shorten the hike, catch the tour boat to the head of the lake.
Hike eight miles up the valley of Cut Bank Creek to Triple Divide Pass. The trail starts at the campground and, after a hike and a final scramble from cairn to cairn, reaches the spot where Atlantic, Pacific, and Hudson Bay Creeks issue from the Continental Divide.
