All of West Glacier’s [1] campgrounds are private RV enterprises ($12–30 per night).
You can find a Forest Service campground, Big Creek (406/387-3800, www.fs.fed.us/r1/flathead [2], $12), about 20 miles northwest of town, at the north end of Camas Creek Road. There are also many coveted campsites in Glacier Park itself.
Lake Five Resort (540 Belton Stage Rd., 406/387-5601, www.lakefiveresort.com [3], RV site $40–45, tepees $50–60, cabins from $110) is on Belton Stage Road a little way north of Highway 2. It’s a pleasant Montana-style lakeside resort complete with cabins, boat rentals, and lake swimming. The season runs mid-May through mid-September.
North American RV Park and Campground (406/387-5800 or 800/704-4266, www.northamericanrvpark.com [4], mid-Apr.–mid-Sept.), between Coram and West Glacier, rents a few clean and cozy yurts ($30–40) and small camping cabins ($50); for both of these options, be prepared to trek to the bathhouse. The park also has plenty of room for RVs ($25–35).
Tent campers and RVers alike will be glad for the West Glacier KOA (355 Half Moon Flats Rd., 406/387-5341 or 800/562-3313, www.westglacierkoa.com [5], tent $29, RV $29–47, cabin $62–72) and will find it handy (two miles west of the park entrance), well-equipped, and large.
Even bigger and closer to the park, Glacier Campground (12070 Hwy. 2 W., 406/387-5689, www.glaciercampground.com [6], tent $19, RV $20–27, cabin $35–45) is noted for its evening barbecues and a generally high activity level on the sprawling forested campground. The season for both the KOA and Glacier Campground runs May through September.
