The view from the Vista Motel (406/888-5311 or 800/837-7101, www.glaciervistamotel.com [1], mid-May–mid-Sept., $67–140) is grand. Perched on a bluff overlooking Highway 2 and the peaks of Glacier, this is a hard one to miss on the drive in from Kalispell [2]. The view is the best thing about this place (the Vista is showing its now-considerable age), and that, plus convenience, friendliness, and a heated pool, makes it a good bet.
The West Glacier Motel (200 Going-to-the-Sun Road [3], 406/888-5662, www.westglacier.com [4], mid-May–late Sept., rooms $82 and up, cabins $141 and up) is just off Highway 2 in the cluster of businesses near the park entrance. Its woodsy location on the Flathead River provides easy access to fishing and float trips, which can be arranged by management. Rooms have a budget ambiance, if not price.
