Summertime Saturday mornings (and Tuesday evenings) bring the Farmer’s Market to the Circle Square, at the northern end of Higgins Street next to the old Northern Pacific rail depot.
Early each April, the university hosts an excellent wildlife film festival (406/728-9380, www.wildlifefilms.org [1]).
A Native American powwow is held annually, usually in May, in the university field house. The chamber of commerce (406/543-6623) can provide exact dates and times.
The 221-mile bicycle Tour of Swan River Valley is an annual springtime event, usually held in late May. Register well in advance for the TOSRV ride; it’s sponsored by Missoulians on Bicycles (406/543-4489, www.missoulabike.org [2]).
The International Choral Festival (406/721-7985, www.choralfestival.org [3]) is a midsummer event drawing choirs from all over the world for a series of free concerts. The festival is held once every three years; 2009 is a festival year.
The Western Montana Fair is held in Missoula [4] during the third week of August. It’s time to take in a rodeo, a delectable Montalado (a Montana-style enchilada), the llama pavilion, and perhaps a few carnival rides.
