Distance: 3 miles round-trip
Duration: 1 hour or less
Elevation change: Negligible
Effort: Easy
Trailheads: Grand Canyon Lodge [1] or the North Kaibab Trail [2] parking lot
More of a stroll than a hike, this easy trail allows visitors to leave their cars behind in order to get from one place to another on Bright Angel Point [3]. The path connects the lodge and campground and leads through a forest of ponderosa pines to the North Kaibab Trailhead [2].
It’s the only trail on the North Rim [4] where you can bicycle or walk your pet (on a leash). Like a small-town sidewalk, this path has a friendly, social feel.
You might see mule deer wandering nearby or catch a glimpse of a Kaibab squirrel leaping from branch to branch in the tall ponderosas. If no one’s watching, take time out to stop and sniff a tree—the ponderosa’s bark smells like butterscotch or vanilla.
