Not surprisingly, Wiscasset [1] is a major center for antiquing, with more than two dozen shops. A favorite is The Marston House (Main St. at Middle St., Wiscasset, 207/882-6010, www.marstonhouse.com [2], noon–5 p.m. daily May–Dec. and by appt.), which focuses on French country furniture.
Across the bridge, potters at Sheepscot River Pottery (34 Rte. 1, Edgecomb, 207/882-9410, www.sheepscot.com [3], daily year-round) throw and fire their works in a studio adjoining the shop. Items for sale include plates hand-painted with Maine [4] scenes.
More artisan works are on display at the Iron and Silk Forge and Gallery (Rte. 27, Edgecomb, 207/882-4055), one-stop shopping for silk scarves and wrought-iron tools.
