The small and meticulously kept York Village is a historian’s jackpot, filled with colonial homes, a library and schoolhouse, and cemetery. Many of them are open for tours through this society (207 York St., York, 207/363-4974, www.oldyork.org [1], 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Mon.–Sat. in summer, $10 adults, $9 seniors, $5 children 6–16, free children under 6, $20 families); some are self guided, some are not. Check in at the Jeffords’ Tavern Visitor Center (5 Lindsey Rd.) to find out which is which, and to purchase tickets and get a map.
