Capturing black bears and making them perform for tourists may seem just a bit, well, savage. But if you are into that kind of thing, check out the trained bear shows at the old-fashioned Clark’s Trading Post (110 Daniel Webster Hwy./Rte. 3, Lincoln, 603/745-8913, www.clarkstradingpost.com [1], 9:30 a.m.–6 p.m. daily late June–early Sept.; open weekends mid-May–late Sept., $12 adults and children 6 and up, $6 children 3–5, free children under 3) tourist trap along the lines of Wall Drug in South Dakota or South of the Border in South Carolina.
Among the grab-bag of attractions at Clark’s Trading Post are a bumper-boat ride, an upside-down mansion, and a climbing wall designed as a scale model of the Old Man in the Mountains. Several retro museums cater to the eight-year-old in all of us with antique cars, firefighting equipment, and more.
