Serious beer drinkers frequent the bar stools at Seven Barrel Brewery Pub (North Country Plaza, Rte. 12A, W. Lebanon, 603/298-5566), where pints of home-brewed specialties like Seasonal Maple Ale, Cream Ale, and Cask-Conditioned Red Ale go down fast and smooth.
On campus, the Spaulding Auditorium (Dartmouth College, Hanover, 603/646-2422, http://hop.dartmouth.edu [1]) at the Hopkins Center for the Arts is where to catch plays, concerts, and dance shows put on by visiting artists as well as students.
Dartmouth’s [2] biggest event each year is Winter Carnival (603/646-2466., www.dartmouth.edu [3], early Feb.), a four-day celebration of the season with athletic (and not-so-athletic) competitions, giant snow sculptures, and hot chocolate–induced merriment. Incidentally, the carnival served as the setting for a 1939 movie starring Ann Sheridan called, what else? Winter Carnival.
