With first-rate views of the river, tables at Intermezzo (6 School St., Peterborough, 603/924-5000, www.ragattos.com [1], 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and 5 p.m.–9 p.m. Tues.–Sat.; 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Sun., $15–22) are the place to tuck into the solid menu of filling bacon-wrapped chicken, pork tenderloin with sweet and sour cabbage, or daily permutations of pasta.
All Peterborough [2] seems to clamor over Peterborough Diner (10 Depot St., Peterborough, 603/924-6202, www.peterboroughdiner.com [3], 6 a.m.–7 p.m. daily, $9–14) at lunchtime. The local institution is pure and genuine retro: an old green dining car with counter seats, where diners sup on made-from-scratch soups, hot turkey with cranberry sauce, grinders, and sundaes.
