The low-key
Tavern at Rivers Edge (163 Water St., 603/772-7393, www.tavernatriversedge.com [1], 3–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat.) was recently deemed the number-one bar in New Hampshire by popular vote. With an understated décor of dark wood and brick and a walloping martini menu, it is the perfect casual-but-lively place to relax over a nightcap.
George Washington addresses the crowds at the annual American Independence Festival (603/772-2622, www.independencemuseum.org [2], mid-July), which takes place on the grounds of the American Independence Museum [3]. Other costumed interpreters also circulate through the event, which features helicopter rides, fireworks, and craft vendors.
