Split between Canada and the United States, Lake Memphremagog is more than just a mouthful—it also has a nice sandy beach for swimming (though be careful not to disturb Memphre, a sea serpent who reputedly lives in the lake). The lake is also a good place for an afternoon of flatwater canoeing. Up the Creek Paddle Sports (802/334-7350) leads tours of the lake’s bays and inlets.
