The farthest north corner of Vermont [1] and arguably the most quiet, the towns of Derby, Newport, and Jay look more towards Montreal than to Boston [2] or Burlington [3]. Don’t be surprised to hear French spoken in the streets, or even to see it on street signs.
Truth be told, however, this area is far from any urban center. Not that there isn’t plenty to do: Cyclists [4], hikers [5], and skiers [6] alike find thrills galore on the trails of Jay Peak, windsurfers and swimmers swear by the serene waters of the bi-national Lake Memphremagog [7], and leaf-peepers come to, well, just kick back and watch everything turn gold.
