In the center of Mystic [1], the Bascule Bridge drawbridge crosses Route 1 with picturesque views of the river. Along the bridge is a pedestrian walkway where you can take in the view.
Six generations of Denisons inhabited the 1717 house once known as Pequotsepos Manor. The sight is now the Denison Homestead Museum (120 Pequotsepos Rd., 860/536-9248, www.denisonsociety.org [2], noon–4 p.m. Thu.–Sun., 1–5 p.m. Mon. and Fri–Sat. mid-June–mid-Oct., $5 adults, $4 seniors and students, $2 children under 12, free children under 2), an innovative museum that has restored each room in the home to a different time period, incorporating family heirlooms and authentic furnishings.
