Set among gloriously kept gardens, the three rooms offered at Fitch House (563 Storrs Rd., Mansfield Center, 860/456-0922, www.fitchhouse.com [1], $110–125) are set with reproduction wallpapers, antique beds, and vintage prints. There’s also a full breakfast, nightly turndown service, and wireless Internet access.
One of the best bargains around is Elias Child House (50 Perrin Rd., Woodstock, 860/974-9836, www.eliaschildhouse.com [2], $120–150), filled as it is with canopy beds, fireplaces, and romantic vistas of the surrounding horse-dotted fields.
Idyllic inside and out, the
Inn at Fox Hill Farm (760 Pomfret St., Pomfret, 860/928-5240, www.innatfoxhillfarm.com [3], $185) is an uber-cozy little cottage sitting on 75 acres of scenic byway and overlooking a lake. And it’s perfect for privacy seekers, since it actually has only one bedroom (and hosts one set of guests at a time). Those guests, however, have nearly the run of the place, with full access to its kitchen/dining area, private patio and deck, and living room.
The
Inn at Woodstock Hill (94 Plaine Hill Rd., Woodstock, 860/928-0528, www.woodstockhill.net [4], $130–200) isn’t quite so secluded, but it hardly lacks for serenity. The 19th-century manse’s 18 luxury rooms all have private baths, wireless Internet, and many offer fireplaces and four-poster beds.
